Bitumen

Bitumen is a mixture of organic liquids that are entirely soluble in carbon disulfide and composed primarily of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Bitumen is the residual fraction obtained by fractional distillation. It is the heaviest fraction and the one with the highest boiling point. It can be derived from a straight distillation of a single crude oil. However, it is usually a combination of the heavier products from different processes in the refining stages.

Bitumen for asphalt are a highly viscous liquid or semi-solid that are present in most crude petroleums and in some natural deposits. Asphalt is composed almost entirely of bitumen.
